Fit with Frank joint venture with Harrison’s Fund dedicating a month to raise critical funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a terminal neuromuscular disease affecting one in 3,500 boys born in the UK each year

During this month, Fit with Frank will donate £1 of every membership fee from his online workout club www.fitwithfrank.com for the month.  He will also kickstart one of the biggest events of the year, the 2020 Mercer Surrey Half Marathon on Sunday 8th March starting a Woking Leisure centre, and he will be keeping spirits up for runners of all abilities throughout the event, which is a flat course, single loop event, along fully closed roads from central Woking into the surrounding picturesque countryside.

Over the years, 240 runners have put their best foot forward and raised a total of £50,500 for Harrison’s Fund from this half Marathon and this year they have 20 runners taking part for them.

We are calling on people to raise this total and increase the chance of finding a cure for this rare genetic condition that affects all the muscles in the body causing them to waste away.

Frank and Harrison have created a video along with Harrison’s Fund supporters who will be running the half marathon.  The video is a warm up video filled with essential exercises to ensure runners are ready for the ‘off’.  Harrison is ultimately whipping Frank and the team into shape while doing a warm up video for the event.

“Like most, I had heard about Harrison’s Fund but I hadn’t really appreciated what it was all about.  To have the opportunity to meet Harrison, who suffers with this disease was beyond inspirational. Now I have a full understanding of what the Duchenne disease is, it’s in my eyes, a lottery, any one of us could have a boy born to us with this fatal neuromuscular condition.  Why wouldn’t I want to help?  I really hope I can have your support so we can help raise funds to find a cure for this terrible disease” Frank said who lives in Surrey.

Heather Smith, Head of Fundraising at Harrison’s Fund said: “Having met with Frank a few times now it is really wonderful to see his dedication to the cause. Not only financially but emotionally too. He wants to have an impact on our work and is immersing himself in understanding every aspect involved in our charity. We can’t thank him enough for his support.”

Adult places are £25 or a team of four is £75 and if you buy three places you get a fourth one free. Each runner must raise a minimum of £100 or £400 for a team of four.

Harrison’s Fund will provide each runner with a ‘Harrison’s Racing Team’ running vest sporting the Fit with Frank logo. All runners are welcome to meet pre and post-race at our Gazebo in the race village.

About Harrison’s Fund

Harrison’s Fund was set up in 2012 up by Alex and Donna Smith, in response to their son Harrison being diagnosed with Duchenne, a type of muscular dystrophy. Its aim is to raise money to fund the world’s best researchers, who are working to find a cure for the disease. The charity is currently funding 16 research projects in the US and the UK. Duchenne is a fatal neuromuscular condition caused by the lack of a protein called dystrophin which results in progressive muscle weakness. One in 3,500 boys is born with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the United Kingdom each year and there are currently around 2,500 boys and young men with Duchenne. Their average lifespan is just 20 years and it is 100% fatal. Harrison’s Fund is different from many other Duchenne charities out there because it focuses entirely on trying to find a cure for the disease rather than on palliative care. www.harrisonsfund.com
